Animation Principles

For this project, I was to produce an animation that incorporates using animation concepts covered in class.

This video project you just saw was part of my third animation assignment in my first semester at SAIT. This assignment involved the 12 principles of animation, where we’d pick one of these principles and compose a storyboard and a 20-second short animation based on that principle.

The designs of the animation models I used in my video were created in Adobe Illustrator. For the balls specifically, I added a bit of extra detail and made them stand out than just being circles. So I also inserted some shine and shadow highlights to give it more life; I would do the same for the cube. The animation and any effects I needed to add were done in After Effects. The bouncing effect was achieved by keyframing the position and the scale so it would be long and thin, fat and short when needed for whatever position the balls were in. Easy Ease was added to make the transition from each frame smooth.
