Unbelievable
An assignment where I had to apply different techniques to isolate and combine photographic images from different sources into a collage using nondestructive image editing techniques.
This photo you see here is part of an assignment I did near the end of my first semester at SAIT. The project was called Unbelievable, and it involved us applying various techniques in isolating and combining different photos and images from multiple sources into a collage. This assignment involved using photoshop. The settings were 8-bit RGB files, 4 inches by 6 inches, at a resolution of 300 pixels. The requirements for this assignment involved blending in at least four images through masking techniques rather than crop (these images had to be edited in a non-destructive way), as well as the occasional touch-up with lighting and color.

I had the grape, orange, and cream crush sodas erupt to showcase Soda’s more bright and colorful sides and the variety of tastes they have. The root beer can was chosen to be the waterfall symbolizing the calmness and happiness these sodas can bring to people. The other sodas were added to add variety, showcasing the different kinds of Sodas. The rocky mountain was added to represent the island these bottles and cans can sit on. The boat and helicopter were added to showcase just the actual size of said bottles and cans, adding a bit of realism to it.
Other bits of realism include mixing the island’s reflection in the water while also showing the colors of grape, orange, cream, and root beer in the water. Finally, I had the photo take place in an evening-like setting to symbolize the dream-like wonders of this photo; after all, an entire filled with enormous cans and bottles of Soda is something most people would hope for.
Any problems I encountered with this college were simply just trying to get the photos I picked to blend in properly with the evening setting, as well as simply trying to find the right images needed. But I eventually manage to make it work. I also considered adding a lens flare, representing the sun behind the can but I decided to remove it as the lighting from the cans gave the impression the sun was in front, not behind.
Overall, I’m happy with how this photo turned out; my teacher thought it was good too. Hopefully, this has given you a bit of insight into my design and Photoshop skills, and I hope to showcase this piece of work to many more.
